One of the most outstanding German photographers, Roland Fischer, was born in 1958 in Saarbrücken; currently he lives and works in Munich and Beijing. He got recognized for his portraiture, his most famous series include "Nuns and Monks" (1986) and the 'pool portraits' he executed in Los Angeles (1993) and later also in China (2007). Besides portraiture, Fisher got interested in architecture, especially focusing on its mathematical, abstract dimension, starting with "Cathedral and Palaces" series (2012), and recently turning towards the total reduction of the representational side of his photographs, as in "Façades" and "Groups of Five" (both 2004). His photography is internationally recognized and collected by institutions such as the Musée d’art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Musée d’Art Moderne in Luxembourg, Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, among many others. Currently, his works are displayed at the Walter Storms Galerie in Munich.
