Véra Pagava, born in 1907 in Tbilisi, died in 1988 in Montrouge, was a Georgian-French artist. With her style changing over the years, no matter if she worked in oil painting,  watercolours or drawing, in abstraction or figuration, her oeuvre was characterized by the elegantly reduced vocabulary of forms and colors. After the invasion of the Red Army on Georgia, Véra and her family were forced to leave the country, and migrated firstly to Germany, then to Switzerland. Later on, Pagava went on to Paris, where she received her art education at several schools, just to mention the École des Arts Décoratifs, Académie Ranson, and Académie de la Grande Chaumière. In the 40s, Pagava started to exhibit at the Galerie Jeanne Bucher, and was invited to partook in the group show "Art Français" (1947) shown in Stockholm. The artist has been re-discovered in recent years, following the group show "Room, conversations" (2007) at the FRAC, and the later "Dessins et Modeles" (2011) at the Galerie Chauvy in Paris. One year later, the Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery in Tbilisi staged the first big display of her work to Georgian audience (2012).
