  • Kestner-Edition, Hannover. Edition 10/30. Thomas Zipp (born in Heppenheim, 1966) is one of the most important German artists of our time. Trained as a painter, he brings together individual works – paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings and installations – to create an overall concept that completely integrates the spaces of the exhibition venue. By working in this way, Zipp lends his exhibition concepts a unique, unrepeatable existence. Zipp’s works are marked by an intense engagement with history, science and religion, with politics and society and with art history and philosophy. A central role in this is played by the exploration the self, by antagonism in the sense of diametrically opposed antitheses and by the consequences of historical, scientific and religious successes and events. Good and evil, truth and lie, God and the devil, standard and deviation, body and mind, obsession, ecstasy, borderline experience, blessedness and sexuality provide Zipp with thematic inspiration.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Thomas Zipp, born in 1966 in Heppenheim, is arguably among the most interesting German artists of today. He received his education at the Academy of Fine Art in Frankfurt am Main and Slade School of Fine Art in London, holding his first solo and group shows within his university years. Zipp partook in several biennials, including the Berlin Biennale (2006) with the project "Of Mouse and Men" and Venice Biennale (2013) with "Comparative Investigation about the Disposition of the Width of a Circle". Besides visual arts, Zipp is also active as a musician, often collaborating with Sepp Löbert and Felix Weber.
